  • Professional football offensive tackle Jake Long plays for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League.     Long played for the University of Michigan NCAA football team, and was named to the All-American first team twice during his college career. In 2007, he was a finalist for the Outland Trophy, presented to the best interior lineman in college football.

    He led the Wolverines to four bowl game appearances, including two trips to the Rose Bowl. In his senior season, he allowed only one quarterback sack. He won Big Ten Conference offensive lineman of the year in both 2006 and 2007.

    The Miami Dolphins used the first overall selection in the 2008 NFL draft to take Long. He became the first offensive lineman selected first overall since the St. Louis Rams drafted Orlando Pace first in 1997, and only the third since 1968. Long is also the second player from Michigan ever taken first overall; the other was running back Tom Harmon in 1941 by Chicago.
