Jair Jurrjens is a starting right handed pitcher with the Atlanta Braves. Jurrjens started his career as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions. He had his first start with the Braves on April 3, 2008, and won the game. Jurrjens came to the Braves with Gorkys Hernandez through a trade for Edgar Renteria who was traded to the Detroit Tigers. Jurrjens was born and raised in Willemstad, Curaçao, in the Netherlands Antilles, which is in the Caribbean. Jurrjens older brothers friend and fellow countryman player Andruw Jones played together on the Netherlands National Baseball team for the 2006 World Baseball Classic. Baseball America listed Jurrjens as the Braves' third best prospect entering the 2008 season. Jurrjens went down in Curaçao history books for being the first pitcher from Curaçao to reach the major leagues.
