  • Jahvid Best is the starting running back for the California Golden State Bears. He was one of the top candidates for the 2009 Heisman Trophy as the leading rusher of this NCAA football season before the Cal Bears fell short against both the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans.     During the game against the Oregon State Beavers on November 8, 2009, Best ran and jumped for a touchdown, but was shoved higher and landed horrifically. He suffered a serious concussion, lost consciousness, and was sent to the emergency room immediately.     Recognized as one of the nation's top returning players, Best's career highlights include rushing for a school-record five touchdowns and 131 yards in Cal's 35-21 victory over Minnesota on September 19, 2009. In 2008, he also set a record for most rushing yards in a single game at 31 against Washington.
