Jacques Chirac was the President of France for twelve years, from 1995-2007. Before becoming president, Chirac was the nation's prime minister for two two-year terms and the mayor of Paris for fifteen years. In January of 2009, Chirac was briefly hospitalized after he was mauled by his pet Maltese, Sumo.
