Jacoby Ellsbury is an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox. In 2007, he was one of the sparks for the playoff run for the Red Sox as they won the World Series.
Early Life
Jacoby McCabe Ellsbury was born in Madras, Oregon on September 11, 1983. He was enrolled as a member of the Colorado River Indian Tribe. He would attend Madras High School and then would be drafted in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, but he would not sign. He would move on to attend Oregon State University.
Pro Career
Ellsbury would be drafted again in 2005 with the twenty third pick in the Major League Baseball Draft by the Boston Red Sox. Ellsbury would make his major league debut on June 30, 2007. In the process he would become the first Native American of Navajo descent to make it to the Major League level. In his first stay with the Red Sox he would eventually earn a starting role as the team's center fielder, helping the Red Sox to the 2007 World Series Championship. In 2008, his official rookie season, he was be named the everyday starting Center Fielder for the Boston Red Sox.
