Two months after moving to Forks, Washington, Bella Swan reunites with an old childhood friend, Jacob Black. Jacob tells Bella an old Quileute tribal legend about a pack of werewolves who have a treaty with a family of vampires that live in the area. The treaty states that peace between vampires and werewolves will remain as long as no vampire bites a human. In New Moon, following Edward's departure, Jacob and Bella become best friends. While Bella's feelings for Jacob stop there, his don't. He falls in love with her. Even though she's in love with Edward, Jacob is still protective of her because he's afraid that Edward may bite her and turn her into a vampire. In Eclipse, Bella realizes that she does love Jacob, but to his dismay, the love isn't as strong as the one that she harbors for Edward. Because of this, Jacob leaves Forks.Twilight Lexicon: Jacob Black

Jacob returns in Breaking Dawn and surprises Bella at her Wedding. By the end of the book, Jacob has overcome his feelings for Bella. With the birth of Renesmee Cullen, Jacob meets his true soul mate. He imprints himself on Renesmee. By the end of the book, a friendship is forged between Edward and Jacob. In addition, Jacob becomes a member of the Cullen family.
