  • Early Years

In 1989 a group called Touchdown Jacksonville! formed and began the push to award a NFL franchise to the area. The group officially filed the application with the NFL in 1991, however it was not until November 30, 1993, that the franchise was granted. The former Gator Bowl stadium was demolished the following month, making room for the Jaguars stadium.
  • Inaugural Season

The Jaguars home venue, Jacksonville Municipal Stadium was completed in 1995 and the team played their first game on August 18. They finished the 1995 season with four wins and twelve losses.
  • 1996 and beyond

After adding several players in the 1996 NFL Draft, the Jaguars made their first post season appearance the same year. They made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game, which they lost to the New England Patriots.

Finishing first in the AFC Central division in 1998 and 1999, the Jaguars returned to the AFC Championship game in 1999. Again they lost the game, this time to the Tennessee Titans.
