    Jackson was once a trading post operated by a French-Canadian trader named Louis LeFleur and was actually once called Lefleur's Bluff. On November 28, 1821 a legislative act authorized Jackson to be the permanent location of government for the state and ordered it to be named Jackson. Jackson was burned three times by Union troops during the Civil War
