Jackie Chan was born on April 7, 1954 in Hong Kong. His father began teaching him kung fu at a young age believing that the art of kung fu would help his son to build character, teach him patience, strength and courage. When his father took a job in Australia, he left Jackie in Hong Kong where he went to school and lived at the China Drama Academy for 10 years. While at the school, Jackie continued learning martial arts as well as acrobatics, singing and acting. He graduated at the age of 17 and worked as a stuntman in Hong Kong for a few years. When Jackie was 21, he starred in his first movie, New Fist of Fury in Hong Kong. It was during his martial arts roles in Hong Kong movies that he learned to add humor to his parts. As his popularity grew, he starred in more Asian movies including Snake in Eagle’s Shadow and Drunken Master. He also directed Fearless Hyena. It took him many years to make it in American movies. His first American hit was Rumble in the Bronx, followed by Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon.
