Jack Johnson was the first African-American to win the Heavyweight boxing title. His win over James J. Jeffries caused race riots across the United States. In 1913, Johnson was convicted of having a relationship with a Caucasian woman, an action that was a violation of 'the Mann Act."
On March 31, 2009, Senator John McCain and other lawmakers sought a presidential pardon for the deceased Johnson.
