English actor Jack Davenport was cast as Commodore Norrington, the Naval officer in love with Elizabeth Swann on the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and in the television series This Life and Coupling. Initially he wanted to pursue a career behind the camera on the film crew, but after writing to the director of the film Fierce Creatures in a bid to gain experience behind the camera, his letter was sent to casting. His first role was a zookeeper.
