J.W. Anderson

J. W. Anderson, who's complete name is Jonathon William Anderson, blends menacing sensual processes with a passion of magical creatures in literature and history, and has made him one of the most fascinating designers of menswear in British fashion.

Anderson initially wanted to follow a vocation in acting and in 2001, he moved to Washington, D.C. to study drama at The Actors' Studio and that is where he uncovered his love for theater attire. J. W. Anderson shortly thereafter moved back to London where, while he was working as a stylist for the artist Rufus Wainwright, he got his degree at the London College of Fashion in menswear. Anderson graduated in 2007 and had before that, launched his signature label. J. W. Anderson's Autumn/Winter2008 collection was inspired by Russian surrealism and ”delves into the intricate mind of Grigori Rasputin and his relationship with the Romanov family in the early 20th Century." Afterwards, Anderson made his step forward with the greatly awaited Spring/Summer 2009 collection which was named an Eye for an Eye. This collection was saturated in historical citing, motivated by religious bits and pieces, fabled characters and cultures constrained in beliefs. J. W. In J.W. Anderson's Fall 2009, it was evident that fashion can be enchanting. His collection showed huge quantities of charisma and creativeness at its best. He designed his collection to tell a story. Deliberate or not, his collection takes its user to a magic forest where youngsters' stories like Little Red Riding Hood actually come to life. Deception and masks demonstrated the assortment of knits that were robe like and wolf like fur that was accentuated flawlessly with a pair of clever eye glasses. Anderson utilized an aura of Oriental exotics in his lounge wear collection. When being interviewed before the 2010 London Fashion Week, J. W. Anderson describes the J. W. Anderson man as “a chameleon, a researcher and open to change. He’s kind of a loner. But overall he is obsessed with taste.” He stated that the things that have motivated him for Autumn/Winter2010 are “Saints or assassins with a cross-country paramilitary vibe.” J. W. Anderson showed his Autumn/Winter 2010 collection at London Fashion Week on February 24, 2010.
