    In February of 2009, Smith was fined $1,000 by a Monmouth County, New Jersey, judge for failing to appear at a hearing to face charges from a 2007 traffic incident. Smith was charged with improper passing, failure to stop, speeding, reckless driving, and failure to wear a seat belt after hitting a car at an intersection.   • 2009 Slam Dunk Contest

    Smith competed in the slam dunk contest portion of the NBA All-Star Weekend on February 14, 2009.     Earl Smith III was born in Freehold Borough, New Jersey, on September 9, 1985. He would play basketball at Lakewood High School, then St. Benedicts' Preparatory School in New Jersey. He would forgo college and declare himself eligible for the NBA draft in 2004.
  • Pro Career

    Smith was selected with the 18th pick in the 2004 NBA draft by the New Orleans Hornets. He would spend several productive years with the Hornets before being traded to the Chicago Bulls along with P.J. Brown for Tyson Chandler. Several days later he was traded again to the Denver Nuggets for Howard Eisley and two second round draft picks in 2007.
