ITunes 8

At the Apple Let's Rock Event on September 9, 2008, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the new version of iTunes, which features the iTunes Genius system for creating playlists and recommending songs. Upgrades also include the addition of NBC shows to the iTunes Store, HDTV programming and new browsing options.

Announcements from the Event

  1. iTunes will add HD TV shows; $2.99 for HD shows, and $1.99 for standard definition (SD)
  2. NBC shows will return to iTunes in SD
  3. "Genius" features are, indeed, coming
    • Genius identifies songs that complement each other and automatically creates playlists from themVentureBeat: iTunes 8 with “Genius” recommendations (September 3, 2008)
    • Also makes recommendations from iTunes Store
    • Genius system, which sends info on your playlist into the "Cloud," will be opt-in
