Ellie escapes and boards a bus headed to New York City. On the bus, she is forced to share a seat with gruff, heavy-drinking reporter Peter Warne (Clark Gable). Although the two immediately dislike each other, Ellie convinces Peter to help her get to New York with the promise of an exclusive story that could help rejuvenate his career.
