Isn't Anything is the second full-length album from alternative rock band, My Bloody Valentine. The album was released in 1988, just three years before the release of the band's award-winning album, Loveless. Though Isn't Anything was overshadowed by Loveless, the record nonetheless earned the band a devoted following in the shoegaze movement of the late 1980s. The album features the band beginning to utilize studio techniques, such as tape loops, to morph their guitar sound.http://www.allmusic.com/album/isnt-anything-r13639
Isn't Anything was produced by My Bloody Valentine with engineering assistance from Steve Nunn, Dave Anderson and Alex Russell. Joe Dilworth took on the photography for the album sleeve. The album had one single, "Feed Me With Your Kiss." Neither the album nor the single made it on the Billboard charts.http://www.allmusic.com/album/isnt-anything-r13639 The record was preceded by the band's first album, This Is Your Bloody Valentine.http://www.allmusic.com/artist/my-bloody-valentine-p4984/discography

Performer Background
The band, My Bloody Valentine, came about in Dublin, Ireland in 1984 after guitarist Kevin Shields and drummer Colm O'Coisoig left their former band, Complex, behind. They recruited a vocalist and keyboardist to round out their line up. After creating a slew of EPs and moving around to different record labels, the band enlisted the aid of bassist Debbie Googe. Soon after, Conway was replaced by vocalist and guitarist Bilinda Butcher.http://www.allmusic.com/artist/my-bloody-valentine-p4984
By the time the band had released their second album, Isn't Anything, they were associated with the shoegaze movement, which included bands like Ride, Lush and Slowdive. My Bloody Valentine was influenced by groups such as The Birthday Party, The Velvet Underground and the Cocteau Twins.http://www.allmusic.com/artist/my-bloody-valentine-p4984

Reviews
"The first pairing of Bilinda Butcher's airy vocals and Kevin Shields' meticulous and bittersweet songwriting, Isn't Anything is a brilliant breakthrough made of equal parts noise and amorphous light. On their second album, My Bloody Valentine severed ties with its more goth-tinged earlier work and began its first steps into shoegazer, a territory that the band would eventually conquer and, arguably, remain untouched." — Hubert Vigilla, Treblehttp://www.treblezine.com/reviews/1633-My_Bloody_Valentine_Isn_t_Anything.html
"Though it's often seen as just a precursor to their magnum opus Loveless, in its own way My Bloody Valentine's Isn't Anything is nearly as groundbreaking as their 1991 masterpiece. Not only was it the most lucid, expansive articulation yet of the group's sound, it virtually created the shoegazing scene and spawned legions of followers." — Heather Phares, All Music Guidehttp://www.allmusic.com/album/isnt-anything-r13639/review
