The Unicorns, Th' Corn Gangg and Islands
Islands frontman Nicholas Thorburn was one of the founding members of the indie pop group The Unicorns in 2000. The band's second album, Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?, was a significant hit for an independent release, and the band embarked on a world tour opening for Canadian band Hot Hot Heat. The exhaustion of constant touring caused the band to split in December of 2004. Thorburn and Unicorns drummer Jaime Thompson immediately embarked on two new projects, the rock/hip-hop collaboration Th' Corn Gangg and Islands.
Thompson left Islands on May 28th, 2006, stating that he was no longer interested in playing with a successful band.
