Iron Man Comic Book

Origin

Wealthy scientist Tony Stark is captured and held hostage. He is forced to create weapons for his captors, but instead uses the materials to create a suit of armor.

He escapes with the suit, and upon returning home, he improves its design by adding several technological gadgets. Suffering from a heart condition and later alcoholism, Stark manages to overcome his demons and remain the Iron Man.

Background

Stan Lee wanted to create a series with a Howard Hughes-like superhero. Lee was also fascinated with the idea of the protagonist having a heart ailment that required an armor suit be worn at all times. With the Cold War going on at the time, Lee came up with the Iron Man concept.Comics 101: Isn't It Iron-IC?: Iron Man
