The first trailer for the film appeared online on December 16, 2009. It features comedian Garry Shandling as a government official asking Stark to turn over his Iron Man, as well as Iron Man making a public appearance at the "Stark Expo," before cutting to Rourke's Whiplash designing a suit of his own, intending revenge against the Stark family. The final shot in the trailer gives viewers a first look at the character of War Machine.
