Irma Marquez, a home health aid worker from Yonkers, New York, filed a federal lawsuit against Yonkers police officer Wayne Simoes. Marquez suffered a broken jaw, a concussion, two black eyes, several bruises and cuts to her face and body in an incident that was captured on surveillance tape. The officer claimed she interfered with emergency medical service workers who were treating her niece. She was arrested for obstruction but was acquitted on the charge.Yonkers Tribune: YPD Officer Accused of Beating Woman Unconscious... (May 30, 2008) Officer Simoes pleaded not guilty in court to federal criminal charges on August 27, 2008.
