Irish Wolfhound

The Irish wolfhound is often referred to as a gentle giant.Dog Breed Info Center: Irish Wolfhound They display a sweet temperament and are intelligent, courageous and make a good companion. Irish wolfhounds are one of the tallest breeds of dogs, shortly behind greyhounds.

Health Problems

Irish wolfhounds are known to suffer from heart disease and a variety of cancers. They may also face problems with bloating, hypothyroidism and liver issues. Because of their large size and weight, they are prone to hip problems.

Sports or Activities

Originally Irish wolfhounds were used to assist with hunting of large animals. Modern day versions are sometimes used for hunting, but more regularly used as pets. They require plenty of exercise or a large yard to run. They are also generally friendly, making them a less than prime choice for a guard dog.
