Iraq reconstruction, in the aftermath of the 2003 Invasion, has become a major project of the international community, notably the United States, and the Iraqi people. Efforts have focused on rebuilding vital infrastructure like water supply systems, sewage treatment centers, electrical power plants, schools, hospitals and health clinics, housing and transportation networks, as well as promoting the economic development and the formation of a criminal justice system and government institutions. Most of the reconstruction that has been completed has been due to the efforts and initiative of the Iraqi people. However, funding and support has come from the United States, United Nations and World Bank, primarily for large scale projects. Thus far, the reconstruction process has been plagued by problems stemming from inadequate security, corruption, insufficient funding and poor cooperation between international agencies and local communities.
