Election and Outcome
Although the major opposition candidate, Mir Hossein Mousavi, was expected to draw enough support to trigger a run-off election, the Interior Ministry was reporting a landslide in favor of the incumbent after polls closed. According to an official, with 10 million ballots counted, Ahmadinejad had a commanding 68.8 percent of the vote, compared to 28.8 percent for Mousavi.
