The IPod Touch Wifi capability was first introduced on September 5, 2007 at an Apple corporate event in San Francisco, California. Adding WiFi to the iPod Touch makes it possible for users to view pages on the Internet on the device using any wireless Internet network that is publicly available. In the press release about the product, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that the new iPod was “a landmark iPod, ushering in a whole new generation of features based on its revolutionary multi-touch interface and built-in Wi-Fi wireless networking”. http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/09/05touch.html
With the addition of Wifi to the iPod Touch, Apple also developed a new music service to allow users to download music directly to the iPod. The service was named the iTunes Wifi Music Store. At its introduction, the Music Store enabled users to browse the newest and most popular downloads on iTunes, preview the tracks for free, and then purchase the songs on the iPod. The songs are automatically downloaded to the computer when the iPod is synced. http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/09/05touch.html
Using Wifi on the iPod Touch
To use the WiFi capability on the iPod Touch, you'll need to turn on WiFi on the device's Settings Menu. The device will then search for available wireless networks in your area and then ask you which one you would like to connect to. If a network is password-protected, a padlock icon will appear next to it.
Once you find a network you can connect to, the next time you want to connect wirelessly, the iPod Touch will automatically try to reconnect to the last network you used. If the previous network is unavailable, it will begin to search for new networks again. You can choose to forget the last network used by selecting that option on the menu.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2031
