IPhone VoIP

- VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol
- Transmits one's voice via the Internet
- Can be used for international phone calls without accruing long distance fees
- iPhone VoIP programs include Fring and Sipgate
- Sipgate was banned in Germany in 2008

Though makeshift Skype and Jajah workarounds can be found for the iPhone, no true iPhone VoIP application existed until Truphone announced they would release one in the fall of 2007. Since then, other services for the popular phone have emerged.
Legal Issues

In September of 2008, German courts decided to ban the iPhone VoIP program Sipgate, claiming it encouraged users to hack their iPhone and break the T-Mobile terms of service.CrunchGear: German court bans iPhone VoIP app Sipgate
