The Wi-Fi-only version of Apple's iPad will go on sale in the United States on April 3, 2010. This version of the iPad allows for internet connectivity only through its Wi-Fi connection. It does not have 3G connectivity.
The 3G-capable model is due to be released in April of 2010, but the exact date has yet to be announced. The 3G-capable version will come with 3G data plans from AT&T which will have a $14.99 monthly plan that allows users to have up to 250 megabytes of monthly data transfer, and an unlimited data plan for $29.99 per month.
The CEO of AT&T, Randall Stephenson, has publicly stated that he believes that sales of the Wi-Fi-only version of the iPad will actually outnumber those of the 3G-capable model which will be exclusively available through AT&T.
Features and Functions
The iPad to be released on April 3, 2010 will have Wi-Fi connectivity and 16GB of storage. The retail price will be $499.
The iPad will boast a 9.7-inch. LED-backlit display. The screen itself will function as a Multi-Touch user interface. Weighing in at 1.5 pounds and with a thickness of 0.5 inches, the iPad will have a very light and slim profile.
The unit will be powered by a 1GHz Apple A4 chip. Its memory capacity will be on a 16GB flash drive.
Although an iPad dock will also be available separately that will allow users to use a keyboard interface for the unit, most users will likely rely solely on the 1024-by-768 pixel screen. For this reason, the screen itself will have a fingerprint resistant oleophobic coating.
