  • The Iowa State University football team plays college football as a member of the North Division of the Big 12 Conference. Known by their nickname the Cyclones, the team plays their home games at Jack Trice Stadium on campus in Ames. The team has won two conference championships as members of the Missouri Valley Conference back in 1911 and 1912.

On December 20, 2008, Paul Rhoads was named the head coach of the Cyclones, replacing Gene Chizik, who left to coach the Auburn Tigers.Iowa State Cyclones: Rhoads Named Iowa State Football Coach

Though they've always seemed to be scheduling fodder for big schools in their league such as Nebraska and Oklahoma, the Cyclones have had recent success in terms of bowl appearances. They played in a bowl game every season except one from 2000 to 2005, and are hoping that Gene Chizik can help restore the upward momentum the program felt in the early part of this decade. Some of the players from ISU past glory include David Archer, Matt Blair, Dennis Gibson, Keith Sims, Karl Nelson, Dan Johnson, Mike Stensrud, Troy Davis and Seneca Wallace.
