  • Ionic Pro is a line of air purifiers, and a competitor with The Sharper Image's better known Ionic Breeze products. At about $150 for the basic model, Ionic Pro is less expensive than Ionic Breeze, which retails for at least $100 more. According to the Ionic Pro's official site, the device operates silently, capturing airborne particles that can cause irritation or exacerbate allergies.
  • Controversy Over Ionizers

Since Ionic Breeze has become a best selling item via infomercials, controversy has emerged over the use of ionizing air filters, concerning both their safety and effectiveness. According to an April 2005 study published by Consumer Reports, ionizing air filters both failed to eliminate airborne irritants[1] , and released potentially harmful ozone[2] into indoor environments. Subsequent to the study, Sharper Image sued Consumer Reports for product-disparagement, but the case was dismissed.
