Adapted from the book The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney, 1956's Invasion of the Body Snatchers tells the eerie tale of a small town whose inhabitants begin to act unlike themselves. As it turns out, the reason they have that dead look in their eyes is that they are dead—their real bodies have been destroyed by giant seedpod aliens that assume their bodies' shape once they fall asleep.
Revisitations
Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy appeared in a 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and two more films based on The Body Snatchers book were also released—the 1993 horror film Body Snatchers and 2007's The Invasion starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
