Into the Woods is a Stephen Sondheim musical inspired by Bruno Bettelheim's 1976 book The Uses of Enchantment. It debuted in San Diego in 1986 and made its Broadway debut the following year. The musical incorporates several of the plots and characters from well-known Brothers Grimm fairy tales including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel.
