On July 30, 2007, Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman died at age 89.
Info
Wrongly accused of income tax evasion in 1976, Bergman suffered emotional distress and fled to Munich in self-imposed exile. He lived there until 1984, then moved to Fårö Island off the coast of Sweden.
He continued to make films until 2003, and underwent hip surgery three years later.
When news of his death spread, many filmmakers and film critics wrote tributes to Bergman, who was reportedly laid to rest on Fårö on August 18, 2007.
