inFamous was developed by Sucker Punch, the creators of the award-winning Sly Cooper series. In the game, the main character Cole survives a massive explosion that devastates Empire City. The inhabitants, who saw Cole walk unscathed from the debris, are convinced that he was behind the attack. In the aftermath, Cole begins to develop superpowers and is able to manipulate electrical energy. He sets out to find the real source of the explosion and the reason behind his mysterious metamorphosis.

The karma system in the game is a key gameplay element. The choices players make in the game and their behavior directly influence the way people react towards Cole. He doesn't have to use his superpowers for good. He can be evil or cruel, or something in between.
