The hospitality industry experienced steady growth in Indiana's capital city in the Nineties and 2000s, so rest assured there's plenty to do in Indianapolis!
Good Sports
Sporting events are especially prevalent in the town nicknamed "The Racing Capital of the World," and indeed the Indianapolis 500 and now NASCAR's Allstate 400 at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway are consistently huge international draws. The 2008 opening of Lucas Oil Stadium will also attract diverse sports happenings to the deluxe facility that was primarily constructed to serve as the new home of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts.
More Than a Sports Town
The downtown Indianapolis area has experienced tremendous growth as the Circle Centre Mall, the Indiana Convention Center and a number of new hotels have popped up, making shopping expeditions particularly appealing to Hoosiers and their out-of-town guests. There are great museums to visit as well, with the renowned Children's Museum of Indianapolis at the top of the list—it is the world's largest children's museum.
