India.Arie is an award winning R&B and Soul singer. She has released four albums on the Motown label.
Background
India.Arie's family moved to Atlanta when she was 13. After high school India began playing guitar at the encouragement of her mother. Her involvement in the fertile Atlanta music scene led to the formation of an artist's collective called Groovement and an independent label, EarthShare, which released a compilation CD featuring Arie's first songs. Arie eventually signed with Motown after a promise of artistic freedom. Her first album Acoustic Soul was released two years later.
