The Spirit Awards Winners for 2009 were announced on February 21, 2009 during a ceremony held on the beach in Santa Monica, California. The annual event was founded in 1984 by the non-profit organization Film Independent to honor independent films and film makers. Film Independent has an open enrollment for its members.
