  • Independence Day is a sci-fi movie released in 1996 where an alien force executes a worldwide invasion, targeting all the major cities on Earth. Though initially overpowered, humanity defeats the alien threat on July 4th. The film was extremely successful, grossing almost $800 million worldwide in its initial box office release.
  • Plot

    On July 2, the government detects giant objects headed for the Earth. Initially thought to be meteors, it is verified that the objects are actually alien spacecraft. Attempts at communication fail, and the aliens soon prove hostile when they destroy major cities around the world. Although Earth's defenses are no match for superior alien technology, a band of survivors led by American President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) embark on a desperate mission to repel the invaders.
