In the Valley of Elah is a 2007 dramatic film written and directed by Paul Haggis and starring Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize Theron, Susan Sarandon, James Franco and Jason Patric.
In the Valley of Elah is about a Vietnam War veteran named Hank Deerfield (played by Tommy Lee Jones) who learns that his son Mike (Jonathan Tucker) has returned home from his tour of duty in Iraq, but has mysteriously gone AWOL. Hank teams up with a Detective named Emily Sanders (Charlize Theron), and the two start an investigation to find out what really happened to Mike.
For his performance as Hank Deerfield, Tommy Lee Jones received a Best Actor Oscar nomination at the 2008 Academy Awards, but he lost to Daniel Day-Lewis (who won for There Will Be Blood).
