  • Plot Synopsis

    In Cold Blood recounted the journey convicts Richard Hickcock and Perry Smith took across Kansas before happening upon the unsuspecting Clutter family. The men stopped to rob the sharecroppers, but upon finding the home void of cash or valuables, they killed all four members of family. Ultimately Smith and Hickock were arrested, tried in a court of law, and both were executed for the crimes In his novel, author Truman Capote examined the family, the perpetrators, and the local and national fallout of the heinous crime.
  • Critical Reception

    In Cold Blood began a new movement in Literature called "New Journalism" which employed novel and essay writers rather than journalists to investigate and report stories. Most of these works could be found in more soft new magazines rather than newspapers.
