Former
Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyeh was believed to be the military commander and the individual in charge of the group's foreign relations. He has been implicated in the
1983 bombing of the
United States embassy and Marine barracks in
Beirut, the
1985 TWA 847 hijacking, and the
1992 bombing of the
Israeli embassy in
Buenos Aires. He was killed by a car bomb in
Damascus,
Syria on
February 12,
2008. Hezbollah has blamed
Israel for the killing, though Israel has denied involvement. Before his death he had been placed on the
European Union's most wanted list and, at a bounty of $5 million, on the United States' motst wanted terrorists list.
