Illinois State University is a public coeducational institution of higher learning located in the state of Illinois. The school's sports teams are part of the Missouri Valley Conference and the Gateway Football Conference.

Illinois State University was established in 1857 by Jesse W. Fell. The institution was known at the time as The Illinois State Normal University.
