    Prior to playing in the NFL, Taylor played college football for the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns in the NCAA. He started played on offense, but moved to the defense during his senior year. Taylor finished his collegiate career with 70 carries for 323 yards and three touchdowns, as well as 49 tackles and two forced fumbles. His performance earned selections to the Super Sleeper Team and All-Sen Belt second team.     Taylor made his professional debut in 2003 with the Steelers, playing in all 16 regular season games and recording 26 tackles. He saw his statistically best season in 2005, totaling 75 tackles and two fumble recoveries for eight yards as he helped the Steelers win Super Bowl XL.
