Iggy Pop is a legendary punk rock singer, songwriter and occasional actor. In 1967, he formed The Stooges with brothers Ron and Scott Asheton and Dave Alexander.
Pop's upcoming album entitled Preliminaires features jazz and blues influences. The album was reportedly inspired by Michel Houllebecq's novel The Possibility Of An Island. It will be released on June 2, 2009 by Astralwerks in the U.S..Billboard: Iggy Pop's French Connection (March 26, 2009)
Background
Sometimes referred to as the "Godfather of Punk," Pop got his start fronting The Stooges in the late 60s. Known for their live performances, Pop was famous for exposing and sometimes mutilating himself while on stage. Pop has had varying degrees of commercial success over the course of his career. His best known solo songs include "Lust for Life," "The Passenger" and "Candy" with vocalist Kate Pierson of The B-52's.
Film and Television
Pop has appeared in sixteen movies, typically in small roles, including Sid and Nancy, Coffee and Cigarettes and Dead Man. He was featured in the television series Adventures of Pete & Pete, Tales from the Crypt and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He voices the character of Lil' Rummy on Comedy Central's Lil' Bush and did voice work for the video game Grand Theft Auto IV.
