Identigene is a subsidiary of Sorenson Genomics, based in Houston, Texas. The company's main product is the Identigene DNA Paternity Test Collection Kit. The test is an over-the-counter paternity test, marketed as a replacement for more costly and inconvenient prescription tests.
The sampling portion of the test is conducted at home, by rubbing separate swabs on the inner cheeks of the mother, the child and the possible father. Unlike home pregnancy tests, however, results cannot be obtained instantaneously: the samples are mailed to Identigene's Houston lab and results are reported in three to five days.
