ICQ is an instant messaging and social networking program for Windows, Mac, and Mobile phones. Since 1998, it has been owned by Time Warner.
History
In 1996, Mirabilis created the first version of ICQ. ICQ was so named because it sounds like "I seek you." In 1998, AOL Time Warner acquired it.

As an instant messaging service, ICQ is primarily social in nature. Upon registering with the service, users recieve a UIN, or Universal Internet Number. This number remains permanently associated with the account. Users can search for each other based on name and email address as well.
