I Dream of Jeannie was an American sitcom that aired on NBC from 1965, through 1970. The show's lead characters were Barbara Eden, as the female genie, and Larry Hagman as an astronaut who becomes her master, and eventually her husband.
The series was created by Sidney Sheldon in response to the success of another fantasy based show, Bewitched. The first 30 episodes of the show were filmed in black and white, while the last 109 were in color, making a total of 139 episodes.
Finding Jeannie
At first Sheldon could not find an actress to portray Jeannie in the way that he wanted. He had one rule: no blondes. He did not want the character of Jeannie being confused with the blond character from Bewitched. After awhile, he gave Barbara Eden a call. He met her for tea. As they say, the rest is history. Sheldon had his Jeannie.
