Hyundai spotlighted their Hyundai Genesis Coupe in a first quarter Super Bowl commercial that aired February 1, 2009. The 30-second, pre-game ad featured musician Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins. Originally, the car manufacturer had purchased dual spots for the Genesis Coupe but in light of the 2008 Recession decided instead to spotlight their new Hyundai Assurance program and their "Car of the Year" award.
