Hyperhidrosis is a condition categorized by excessive sweating beyond what is considered normal. It most commonly affects the hands, feet, underarms, face, and trunk, but it can effect other parts of the body as well. Hyperhidrosis can have a devastating effect on the lives of those who suffer from it, causing them to avoid social situations and activities where it might be noticeable by others. There is no solid cure for this condition and those with it have virtually no control over it. http://www.endsweat.com/hyperhidrosis.html
Causes
Hyperhidrosis is thought to be caused by an overactive sympathetic nervous system. It is considered to be a genetically inherited condition. People usually start to develop it around adolescence, but it can occur at other times during a person's lifetime. http://www.endsweat.com/hyperhidrosis.html Factors that can contribute to hyperhidrosis include warm temperature and stress, but often times the sweating occurs unexplainably. Those who suffer from it have no control over it which can be very difficult to deal with. http://www.hyperhidrosis.us/ It is thought that hyperhidrosis is caused by a combination of physical and emotional factors.Treatments
There is yet to be a solid cure for Hyperhidrosis. There are several options that are recommend to help reduce sweating which include topical treatments, oral medication, iontophoresis, botox, and surgery. http://www.sweathelp.org/English/PFF_Treatment_Overview.asp- Topical Treatments - Antiperspirant solutions that are applied directly to the skin in order to stop sweat at the skin level.
- Oral Medication - Taken by mouth to reduce sweat physiologically and/or mentally.
- Iontophoresis - Use of water and electrical current to stop sweat on the hands and feet.
- Botox - Injections into the skin to stop sweat at the targeted area.
- ETS Surgery - Used as a last resort for severe sweating when other methods have failed. Involves cutting of nerves which stops sweat at the hands. Can often lead to more sweat around the rest of the body.
