Experts envision thousands of hydrogen fuel stations around the world in conjunction with the mass production of hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles such as the recently unveiled Honda FCX Clarity. As of June 16, 2008, there were 71 hydrogen fueling stations in the United States with an additional 40 under development.
How a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car Works
A hydrogen fuel cell vehicle differs from other alternative fuel-powered vehicles, such as hybrids and electric cars, in that it requires no gasoline whatsoever, and never has to be plugged in. Hydrogen cars run on the electricity generated when hydrogen stored on board the vehicle combines with oxygen from the air.
