A hybrid SUV is a type of sport utility vehicle which runs on multiple, or hybrid, power sources. Today, hybrid vehicles most commonly run with a standard internal combustion engine, the type that uses gasoline, with an additional electric motor as the secondary source of power.
An SUV is a large, four- wheeled vehicle. Resembling a cross between a truck and a car, they are built on a truck chassis, are often high-performance, and are capable of fitting more than a standard 4 passengers in their extended cab, which may have 2 or three rows of seating in various styles and layouts. http://www.driving-test-success.com/car-terminology.htm http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=suv In addition to their standard in-town abilities, SUVs are multi-purpose vehicles with the ability to go off-road into moderate terrain areas, and with the capability to tow other vehicles or trailers. http://www.driving-test-success.com/car-terminology.htm
By definition, any two power sources will make a vehicle in to a hybrid vehicle. Today’s vehicles with both gasoline engines and electric motors allow the two different motors to be used either together or separately. In the future, other types of hybrid vehicles may be developed to include power sources such as solar energy, propane, or hydrogen, but in the meantime, the current and common style is often called gas-electric hybrid. These types of vehicles have been available for about 10 years and are gaining popularly as their cost decreases and the cost of gasoline increases. http://what-is-what.com/what_is/hybrid_vehicle.html
