The Hutaree is a religious militia group who claim to be defenders of Christ, and freely admit to take violent means if necessary to do so. On their official site, their tagline states, "Preparing for the end time battles to keep the testimony of Jesus Christ alive."http://www.hutaree.com/ During the last weekend of March, 2010, Hutaree members in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana were arrested in a series of raids and detained pending criminal charges, accused of selling pipebombs. As the raids went down, their pleas for help went unreturned, as other militia units in the area felt their actions and plans were too extreme, according to Michael Lackomar, a leader of the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/ynews_ts1361 According to Lackomar, the Hutaree made extremist threats of violence against Islamic organizations, in addition to police officers.
In court on March 29, 2010, it was revealed nine members of the group were arrested, eight men and one woman. They are accused of leading a plot to go to war against the United States government. Part of their plan included killing law enforcement officers, then launching separate attacks during the funerals of the slain officers. Fed Indictment: Hutaree Militia Planned to Use Weapons of Mass Destruction & Kill Police Officers
Hutaree were arrested in a police sweep on March 29, 2010.
Federal charges include Seditious Conspiracy, Attempt to Use Weapons of Mass Destruction, Teaching/Demonstrating Use of Explosive Materials and two counts of Carrying, Using and Possessing a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence.
